Fabrice Muamba: Bolton braced for difficult return, says Owen Coyle
Bolton boss Owen Coyle admits some of his players may struggle to
compete in Saturday's home game against Blackburn after Fabrice Muamba's
collapse.
He said anyone who does not feel up to playing will be excused from the match.
"Will it be difficult? Absolutely. The thoughts are with Fabrice to make sure he continues that recovery," he said.
Midfielder Muamba, 23, remains in intensive care after suffering a cardiac arrest in the FA Cup tie at Tottenham last Saturday.
The match will be Bolton's first since the Spurs game was abandoned.
"I wouldn't ask anybody to play who felt they couldn't," Coyle said.
"So far, no-one has told me they don't want to be involved.
"There comes a point that we have to play our games and move forward."
Muamba was "in effect dead" for 78 minutes following his on-field collapse, Bolton's club doctor Jonathan Tobin has said.

1901 GMT: Muamba arrives at the London Chest Hospital
1931 GMT: Muamba receives 15 defibrillator shocks in total before his heart starts beating again
The former England Under-21
player has been visited at the London Chest Hospital by several of his
team-mates and players from other teams as he makes steady progress.
Coyle said Muamba's father, Marcel, and fiancee Shauna wanted Bolton to start playing again.
"I spoke to them for over an hour and they were adamant - Bolton had to play their games," said Coyle.
"Everything does pale into insignificance alongside Fabrice's recovery. But we will go out there and do our best."
Coyle said he had not slept on Sunday night as Muamba faced a crucial part of his recovery.
"Monday was an unbelievable day. We are all astonished with how far he has come," said the Scot.
"But we have to stress he is still in intensive care and he is still seriously ill. He has a long way to go."
Fifa president Sepp Blatter has called Muamba's recovery "a miracle" which had deeply affected him as it brought back memories of Cameroon international Marc-Vivien Foe, who died in similar circumstances in 2003.
"I had a phone call from Phil Gartside, the chairman of Bolton, and I have to say it was a very emotional call. As he said, from time to time there are forces somewhere that have nothing to do with reality," said Blatter.
"He spoke about the players who stood all around him. He was very emotional, and I was emotional as well because I told him the story of how I brought Foe back to Cameroon, his homeland, how I accompanied him until his funeral."
The cardiologist treating the Bolton midfielder believes it is too early to speculate on whether he can play football again following his cardiac arrest

Fabrice Muamba's future in football is unclear according to the cardiologist treating the Bolton midfielder.
The 23-year-old is currently recovering in hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest during the Trotters' FA Cup quarter-final clash with Tottenham last Saturday.
The 23-year-old is currently recovering in hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest during the Trotters' FA Cup quarter-final clash with Tottenham last Saturday.
It has been revealed this week that the former England Under-21 international was clinically dead for 78 minutes after leaving the pitch and being rushed to London Chest Hospital.
However, despite a miraculous recovery which has seen the Congo-born midfielder joking with friends at his bedside just days after his ordeal, the man who treated him believes it is too early to even discuss whether he can return to football.
Dr Mohiddin told BBC Sport: "I don't think we can even begin to discuss that as it's a question that requires all sorts of unknowns in its answering."
Pressure is mounting on the FA to ensure more heart screenings are performed on players following the incident but Dr Mohiddin says that would not necessarily stop athletes having heart problems.
"Screening is not a crystal ball, it does not tell you what will happen, it tells you what might happen," he added.
Although the ex-Arsenal and Birmingham midfielder is showing positive signs, his doctor is keen to stress that he still has a long way to go in his recovery.
Mohiddin continued: "He is recognising friends and family and there also appears to be a degree of humour in some of his responses.
"But it remains early in what could be a lengthy recovery process."

Abedi Pele: It’s about time Ghana sacrificed someone for 2012 Afcon failure
As the football maestro pushes for someone’s head to roll over an unsatisfactory performance at the 2012 Nations Cup, the coach’s future will be known on Monday

He lamented the delay in deciding the future of the national team coach Goran Stevanovic, who led the team to a fourth-place finish in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. “We are all very sad for such a thing to have happened because people are anxious and I can understand because it has gone on a bit too much,” Abedi told Goal.com.
“For great teams and people who love their country when there is crisis like this the first thing you do is one must be sacrificed; when the team hasn’t performed there is only one person who must be sacrificed and they the GFA are failing to do and if we don’t take the decision early I don’t know what the future is going to be,” he added.
The fate of the Serbian will be known on Monday when the Ghana FA meets with him for the last time over issues concerning his compensation as it is being reported that he has been sacked.

Anzhi angered by Lokomotiv's Samba banana row claims
Anzhi Makhachkala have criticised Lokomotiv Moscow's "interference"
after the Moscow club claimed its fans did not throw a banana at Chris
Samba.
Lokomotiv spokesman Denis Novoselov angered Anzhi
vice-president German Chistyakov by saying it was "thrown by a fan of
the Dagestani [Anzhi]".
Chistyakov said: "It seems FC Lokomotiv is trying to interfere in the investigation... with this statement.
"We are confident this is nothing but an absolute nonsense and foolishness."

“We demand [Lokomotiv] provide us with the conclusive evidence, or immediate and official refutation with an apology to our fans and the club”German Chistyakov Anzhi Makhachkala vice-president
Anzhi had called on Lokomotiv to
identify the fan who threw a banana at former Blackburn defender Samba
in Sunday's game, which hosts Lokomotiv won 1-0.
Novoselov told the Daily Mail:
'We studied all the video from surveillance cameras, carefully
reviewed the testimony of witnesses, and the results of this
investigation found that the banana was thrown by a fan of the Dagestani
team [Anzhi]."
Chistyakov responded in the escalating row by adding: "We'll wait for the results of the official investigation by RFPL [Russian Premier League].
"In [the] current situation we demand [Lokomotiv] provide us with the conclusive evidence, or immediate and official refutation with an apology to our fans and the club.
"Otherwise the case will be brought before the court and the law-enforcement bodies, not the ethics committee."
Samba joined Anzhi from Blackburn in late February and was playing only his third league game for the club.
The BBC's Rafael Saakov in Moscow says that the All-Russian Supporters' Union has expressed its "appreciation" for Samba's words on how this was an "individual act" and how he didn't "inflate this story to the scale of the universe".

AFRICANS IN EUROPE
Van der Pluym – “We have nothing to lose”
Head
coach of Berekum Chelsea, Hans Van der Pluym tells Cafonline.com that
his team has nothing to lose against Moroccan giants, Raja Casablanca in
the Orange CAF Champions League 1/16th round clash this weekend. The
Dutchman said his team will go all out to achieve a convincing result
against the three-time winners.
The
Ghanaian champions were held to a barren draw by Asante Kotoko in a
league match on Wednesday and Van der Pluym says the performance serves a
great boost for their clash with the 10-time Moroccan league champions.
Below are excerpts of his interview;
Cafonline.com: What impact will your performance against Asante Kotoko have on this weekend’s game?
Hans
Van der Pluym: It means a lot for the management and players as well. A
three or four goal margin victory against Asante Kotoko would have
boosted our moral greatly. However, our performance itself in the game
is enough a booster to our confidence. We are the only Ghanaian club
playing in the continental club championships and have a big load on our
shoulders to raise high the flag of Ghana. I know my players are ready
to ‘die’ for a good result.
Cafonline.com: Are you ready for the Raja Athletic Club test?
Hans
Van der Pluym: Football is unpredictable and nothing is impossible. At
the recent Africa Cup of Nations, who would have predicted Zambia to win
the title? Let us start as underdogs, but if we play very well and work
hard, that will determine how far we can go. Tactical discipline is
very crucial at this stage.
Cafonline.com: How well do you know of your opponent?
Hans
Van der Pluym: I have watched their video clips and they have a good
team with skilful players. Raja are known to have a strong team over the
years. We have to prepare psychologically for the test ahead.
Cafonline.com: Are you disadvantaged by the fact that Raja Athletic Club is more experienced than your team at this level?
Hans
Van der Pluym: We can always surprise them. In football, the result is
dependent on the commitment and determination of your players. When they
(players) are pushed, then they will deliver. With the feeling and
confidence, everything is achievable in life not only in football. Raja
has an experienced team and play maturely. We have a young team and
against a team like Raja, we have nothing to lose. We have to go all
out.
Cafonline.com: How are you approaching the game?
Hans
Van der Pluym: Our strategy is to score more goals than the opponent.
If you get a chance against a side like Raja and play first at home, you
have to take your chances. If you get the opportunities to score more
goals, you have to take them very well. These teams are always difficult
to beat away too.
Cafonline.com: Last year, Aduana Stars were edged by Wydad Athletic Club also from Morocco. Have you learnt any lessons?
Hans
Van der Pluym: The most important thing is to be organised and play
very well. Also, we have to take our chances at home and exercise
patience during the return encounter. With the support from the people
of the Brong Ahafo Region, everything is possible.
Platinum to attack from first whistle – Coach Gumbo
03-22-2012

Cafonline.com: How are preparations going for Sunday’s match?
Gumbo:
We are well prepared, noting that Al Merreikh is one of the top clubs
in Sudan, we have had to make sure that tactically we are sharp. Having
played competitive matches locally and the the Orange CAF preliminary
round two weeks ago, the team is fit and confident before this meet.
Cafonline.com: It will be Platinum’s first game at continental level, How are will you approach it?
Gumbo:
Of course it is our first time to feature in the Orange CAF Champions
league, however we are taking this match as seriously as we have any
other. We plan to attack from the first whistle keeping our defense
strong. Al Merreikh is a regular in this competition, however at this
stage we are saying that we want to play our best, and possibly win
Cafonline.com: How much do you know about Al Merreikh and how they play?
Gumbo.
With the league in Sudan having begun we have had the opportunity to
watch a game where they played well and won. They are a strong and level
headed side, the use every opportunity they are presented to take a
shot at goals so we will be watching out for this. Al Merreikh is also
featuring 5 international players so we are interested to see tactically
the challenges we will face and also enjoying good competition.
Cafonline.com: What is the news from the medical team , do you have all your players available to play?
Gumbo: At this stage all our players are game worthy.
Cafonline.com: The match has been moved from your home ground to the capital city, do you think this will affect the way you play the game
Gumbo:
Not at all! Home ground advantage cannot be ruled out but Rufaro
stadium is just like home to FC Platinum. All cup matches were played
there and so we are used to the artificial turf.
We have great respect for FC Platinum - Al Merreikh coach- Ferreira
Sudanese club champions Al Merreikh face Platinum FC of Zimbabwe in the
Orange CAF Champions League 1/16 match first leg away from home this
weekend. Al Merriekh coach Heron Ricardo Ferreiraarrived
in Zimbabwe with his team told Cafonline.com that, they have respect
for their opponents even though it is their debut in the competition .
According to Ferreira this scenario makes Platinum an unpredictable and
dangerous side which cannot be taken for granted.
Cafonline.com : How have your preparations for this match been going?
Heron: I
have only had two months to prepare with the team, which is when I
joined Al Merreikh from Brazil. At this stage I feel the team is at 70%
and would probably have needed at least another month to reach 90%, this
I mean tactically, fitness wise the team is good. We also only managed
to get the players that were playing for the national team in the last
month, this has affected us, but we aim to do our best.
Cafonline.com : You
are seasoned campaigners in this competition but your opponents are
making their debut , how does this impact your approach to the game ?
Heron: The
fact that it’s their first match does not console us, FC Platinum is
strong side. They fight through the whole ninety minutes, and play a
very fast paced game. If we relax and concede even a single goal, it
will be difficult to equalize or turn it around. I have much respect for
the team, they have already won a cup early this season, The Bob 88, so
we acknowledge they are in good form.
Cafonline.com : How much have you gathered up about Platinum FC to help you with your preparations ?
Heron:
We have watched a few of FC Platinum’s games, but that’s not the same
as playing them. When you play an opponent every game is like the first
one, because their style of play will change accordingly. In the first
few minutes I will watch and see tactically how best to manage them. In
the return leg we will be then better prepared as we would have studied
their tactics. Like I said before FC Platinum is a fast team with a lot
of fight so we cannot relax at all.
Cafonline.com : With that knowledge in mind , what result would you be happy to take away with from this match?
Heron: (Laughs)
If we leave with a draw 1-1 or 2-2, we will be very happy. This squad
that we have has 8 new players who have not played in the Champions
league, not forgetting I am also new, so this is almost a new experience
for the present team. We look forward to holding them to a draw, if we
win it’s a plus for us!
Cafonline.com : Sudanese
league season started last month and you have played 4 games so far but
Zim’s league is still to begin , how much of an advantage do you think
this will be to your team.?
Heron: Well,
the league in Sudan has begun, but Al Merreikh has played 4 games in 25
days, which is just 1 month, not a long time to prepare. The Zimbabwean
league has not started but they have many pre season cup challenges so
the teams start preparations early, I suppose that’s how FC Platinum won
the Bob 88 cup, they had been in training.
Cafonline.com : Al Merreikh went out of this competition at same stage (first round) last year, what is your target for this season?
Heron:
I hope we go further. The team is highly motivated and I am satisfied
that we are using our best players. We hope to do a good job and go
further, like I said we respect FC Platinum a lot but, we want to win,
so we will play to win.
Cafonline.com : Have you been to Zim with this club or another before and how did you do?
Heron: No, this is my first time in Zimbabwe.
URA coach Isabirye confident of victory against Mali side Djoliba
On
Saturday Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) FC enter new territory in
continental final when they host Djoliba (Mali) regular campaigners in
the Orange Caf Champions league. Ahead of the clash, Alex Isabirye,
coach of the side took off time to talk to Cafonline.com
Cafonline.com: You seem to have got the right formula for URA than previous coaches. What have you done right?
Isabirye: When
I joined the team in 2010, the team had just been eliminated by
Zambia’s Zanaco in Caf Champions League (4-1agg), I installed belief and
discipline in the players. I told them they are good enough to win the
league and have another go at the continental tournament.
Cafonline.com: What attributes to success of the club as you chance league and Champions League football?
Isabirye: I
have installed a winning mentality in the players. Each player fielded
knows exactly why he is on the pitch. In the previous cases, most
players who joined the team were after money, but now the present
generation knows why they play for team and it the very reason why we
have had success.
Cafonline.com: URA dumped the Lesotho Correctional
Services (LSC) in the previous round, Mali side Djoliba is in different
class. What will be your approach bearing in mind the amount of chances
you missed last time round?
Isabirye: We
need to have the right set of mind. I have been working on my players
especially the strikers. Djoliba is a good side and we need to be at our
best with much concentration. Against the Lesotho side it is true we
missed chances but it is better to miss chances than not get chances.
That is the positive side. May be on Saturday it will be our chance to
use all the chances we get. However if we don’t concede any goal, then
we would have achieved our target.
Cafonline.com: You seem to have a big squad full of internationals. How do you keep them happy?
Isabirye: I
have explained to them my policy of choosing my side and they have
accepted the rotation. We have many competitions which we are taking
part so everyone needs to be at his best. What I drop a player I always
call him and give him the reason why I have dropped him. So the team
remains together on and off the field.
Cafonline.com: Finally having made history by guiding URA past the preliminary stage, how far can you go?
Isabirye: Continental
football is never easy and would like to thank the boys for breaking
the jinx. But the next task is much hard. The team we are meeting is top
of their league with unbeaten run, but a game of football has full of
surprises. We have to win our home game comfortably. May be this time we
shall convert the many chances we get unlike with the game against
Lesotho side.
Simba coach Cirkovic not scared of ES Setif
Simba
head coach Serbian Milovan Cirkovic insists his charges are scared of
no one as they prepare to host Entente Sportive Setif of Algeria in the
first round of the Orange CAF Champions League at the National Stadium
in Dar es Salaam.
Speaking to Cafonline.com in
Dar es Salaam ahead of Sunday’s first leg match against ES Setif,
Cirkovic hailed Algerian side as strong team but expects his team to
post good result at home and stay in good position to qualify for the
next round when they travel to Algiers for the return leg match.
Cafonline.com: How do you see Sunday’s match against Entente Setif?
Cirkovic: To
me it is just another game, I know they’re a strong team, but we’re not
afraid of them… we will try everything to make good result for us, it
is very important that we get good result.
Cafonline.com: Given you will be playing at home, what will be your game approach?
Cirkovic: We’ll
go all out and try to win; they’re strong team, big team, I know
Algeria has good history in African football… they sometime won African
Cup, so must expect Setif to be very strong team, but we also have got a
strong team and we’ll play to win.
Cafonline.com: So, how have the preparations been going so far?
Cirkovic: Our
preparations have been the same as before the other game (against
Kiyovu Sport). We had a tough game in the league against Mtibwa Sugar
over the weekend….that game was good for us in the league campaign but
on the other side, was very important in our preparation for the coming
Confederation Cup match. We had a day off and now we’re back training,
preparing for Sunday’s game, hopefully we’ll have good game.
Cafonline.com: Have you ever watched ES Setif videos to see how they play?
Cirkovic: I
saw some(videos) from internet, but not current one, I mean I saw some
of the games they played about two years ago, I saw their game against
Al Herrach which they won 2-0….they’re very strong team.
Cafonline.com: The
match comes about shortly after the preliminary round matches. How hard
is it to get your players to perform against a strong team like Setif
in such a short space of time?
Cirkovic: There’s no problem, three weeks is good enough time to prepare for any game.
Cafonline.com: Do you have any injury concerns?
Cirkovic: Chollo
(Said Nassoro) and Kazimoto are just returning from injury and have not
trained well, they’re not physically ready for Sunday.
Cafonline.com: Kazimoto,
in particular, was outstanding against Kiyovu Sport and scored a
crucial away goal in the first leg in Kigali, how are you going to
replace him?
We have played four games without Kazimoto and we won, I mean other players can come on and fill in perfectly.
Cafonline.com: You have shown faith in young players like Jonas Mkude and Ramadhan Singano, what are their chances in the squad?
Cirkovic: They’re very important members of the squad. Jonas is very important player for us…he has been playing very well.
Cafonline.com: What do you make of Emmanuel Okwi’s form; he scored twice against Kiyovu Sports which earned you a place in the first round?
Cirkovic: I
expect all the players to do well…. Yeah, sometimes it’s Kazimoto,
sometimes Okwi, sometimes (Felix) Sunzu, sometimes (Haruna Moshi)
Boban…. (Patrick) Mafisango put for goals recently, I expect everyone to
put up a good performance on the day.
Cafonline.com: How has your second tenure at Simba fared so far?
Cirkovic: For
me it has been very good, I’ve very good relationship with officials
here, the players, we’re like a family and I am very satisfied.
Flamingos, Maidens gaze at Azerbaijan
Nigeria
and Ghana look set to wrap up their places for the FIFA U-17 Women’s
World Cup, Azerbaijan 2012, as the second leg matches of the final round
takes place this weekend.
The
convincing results gained by the two sides puts them in a good stead to
snatch two of the three tickets allotted the continent for the global
championship fixed for 22 September to 13 October, 2012.
The
Flamingos of Nigeria edged past the Junior She-polopolo of Zambia 2-1
away in Lusaka in the first leg a fortnight ago where as Ghana’s Black
Maidens held their South African counterparts to a barren draw at the
latter’s backyard.
Playing
at home, the Flamingos and the Maidens find themselves in a seemingly
comfortable position to wrap up the tickets backed by their experience
of participating at every edition of the biennial championship since its
inception in 2008.
The
race for the tickets will begin on Friday in the Ghanaian capital,
Accra, with the Maidens looking forward to ease past the Bantwana and
follow in the footstep of their predecessors. Coach Mas-aud Didi Dramani
and his charges have been in camp upon their return from Johannesburg,
where they have been putting finishing touches to their preparations.
One
element that favours the Ghanaians is the fact that their opponents
have never won away from home in the qualifiers, but Bantwana coach
Gregory Mashilo is very much aware of the challenge that awaits them in
their quest to reach the global tournament for the successive time.
“Ghana
played defensively in the first leg, but we expect them to come at us
this time around, so we should be ready for a really tough encounter. We
have to change our game plan if we are to overcome them in their
backyard.”
The
two teams were both present at the last edition held in Trinidad and
Tobago two years ago, and with one of them certain to miss out this
time, Mashilo adds: “I remain confident that the girls will deliver.”
In
Abeokuta, Nigeria coach Peter Dedevbo has declared his side’s readiness
to completely kill off the World Cup ambitions of the Zambians by
completing a double over them.
Despite
the tall mountain before them, Zambia coach Beauty Mwamba has refused
to throw in the towel insisting her girls can overturn the tables
against the highly favoured Nigerians.
“We
will win in Nigeria definitely. We just need to speak to them
(Shepolopolo) and give them the confidence they need to play away,”
Mwamba said.
The other slot will be decided between Tunisia and Gambia next week in Tunis. Gambia won the first leg by a lone goal.
